The method

From beads to lightning-fast mental math

Every child follows the same proven four-step journey to build speed, accuracy, concentration, and confidence.

01Months 1–3

The physical abacus

Children begin on a physical abacus, developing strong number sense and mastering the correct finger technique — the essential foundation on which every later skill is built.

  • Reads 3-digit numbers on the frame
  • Correct finger technique
  • Adds and subtracts on beads

02Months 4–8

Mental visualisation

With consistent practice, the physical abacus is no longer needed. Students begin to picture the beads in their minds, performing calculations mentally while strengthening visualisation, concentration, and confidence.

  • Solves without touching beads
  • Holds 2–3 columns in mind
  • Works from dictation

Assessment and competition

Each of the eleven levels closes with a formal test. With every level they complete, students gain the confidence to compete in state and national-level competitions alongside thousands of talented learners.
